energy is *always* conserved. You cannot expect to reap the benefits of a turbo modification without paying some of the costs. Choosing from where those costs are deducted is the process of engineering the solution (e.g., big turbos v. lag etc.). If you modify the engine in an effort to reap the rewards of increased intake pressure but fail to provide the boost there is simply no way to approach the original net efficiency of the engine.
